The idea for Cider Bite was born in 2013 when our founder, Jeff Hanneson, had an epiphany over a pint of the only cider available at a local pub. The cider was good, but it sparked a question: Why isn’t there a place dedicated to just cider?
With a love for great drinks and a vision of creating a place where Portlanders could experience all the varieties of craft cider, Jeff set out to change the game. Fast forward to August 1, 2015 – after finding the perfect spot in the heart of Portland’s Pearl District, Cider Bite opened its doors to serve a community thirsty for new tastes and fresh experiences.
Our founder, Jeff, didn’t just wake up one day and decide to start a cider house – cider runs through his veins. Raised on a family-owned apple and filbert orchard and vineyard in Eugene/Springfield, Jeff’s family has deep roots in both farming and cider-making. The farm, which has been in the family since 1956, is where the tradition of crafting cider began more than 50 years ago with Jeff’s great-grandfather. Jeff grew up watching his father crank apples through their old wooden cider press, learning the art and passion behind every batch. Cidermaking is truly in his blood.
At Cider Bite, Jeff has shifted his focus from making cider himself to curating the very best ciders the world has to offer. We proudly serve ciders from other talented craft cideries, with a special emphasis on local, small-batch producers from the Pacific Northwest.
